Last night as we assembled
In Kilmore's romantic glen
Assembled for to drill me boys,
We had but nine or ten.
But as the moon shone bright and clear,
We mustered forty-four,
We were drilled by Captain Nolan
On the sandhills of Kilmore.

We had some men from Milford Glen,
Some more from Addergown,
We had the men of the Cashen
And the seashore all around
We had one O'Neill from Bóthar Bán,
Who's now on Australian shore.
He swelled the ranks of our Fenian gang
On the sandhills of Kilmore.

If you were to see those forty-four,
Assembled in the strand,
Assembled for to drill me boys,
It was so fine and grand.
The short crack of the copper caps
Just as the day did down
