    delivered his message again. The smith's reply was the same as before - He said he could not have his daughter when he had no trade - but he would make this concession to him that if he came back to him within a year & proved to him that he had learned a trade in the meantime he would agree to give him his daughter. The coachman went back to his Master & delivered the answer he had got - He said it was no use talking further to the Smith - if he was anxious to have the lady he would have to learn a trade.
    "Have you any trade," said the gentleman to the coachman. "Before I became coachman I was a basket maker by trade" said the coachman.
    "Do you call basketmaking a trade?" said the gentleman. "Yes," said the coachman, "& as good a trade as any other & if you wish I shall teach you the trade as I learned it myself." "All right" said
