- (continued from previous page)In Summer we churn twice a week because the grass is plentyful and the cows have enough to eat. In Winter we only churn once a week because the cows have not much to eat. My Mother that churns at home. If a stranger comes in while she is churning he will take the dash and churn because it is an(d) old saying that if her would not take the dash he would bring away the butter. It takes my mother a half an hour to churn.
