There are some very old tombs in Grangemore graveyard, so old as one cannot read them to know to whom they belong. There is one over a hundred years in it. It is a plain flat stone placed on the top of the grave and on this stone there is a verse written:
Here lies Tom and his wife Mary.
His Surname was Burns and she was Farry.
Here they lie beneath the sod.
To poor and strangers they were good.
Both Greek and Latin they understood.
All the monuments are made of stone and marble with the exception of one cross which is made of wood.- Collector
