- The first National School in the county was opposite Mr. William Rouses house. Easkey on the site where Canon Tully's residence now stands. It was taught by a lady teacher Miss Penelope Dalton - a stranger. She taught there in 1855 and 11856. She then got married and did not return to her school. The school was afterwards taught in a house just beside Easkey Catholic Church. It is now owned and occupied by the Misses Doherty
