Candles-
Seventy years ago every house had its candle [?], a large deep pan with a leg stand under it. In it tallow was melted for making candles. Plaited [flare?] wicks were soaked in hot tallow and the candles were shaped in a candle-mould. The side of the candle was stuck to the wall. This was their night light when learning their tasks set by the hedge-school master. Less fortunate people had to do with the rush candles, mentioned in connection with "Twelfth Night".(continues on next page)- Collector
