    Often her mother handed her down her own spinning wheel and her own linens. Many girls had valuable crochet and sprigging worked by their grand-mother and mothers.
    A churn was often given for luck and a feather tick.
    The tongs, for luck, was flung on the heels of the party when leaving the bride's house; and an old shoe was tied on the side-car for luck.

    Superstitions:-
    If the sun shone good omen
    If first person met were a man - good omen

    If two members of the same family got married same day or even the same year it brought bad luck to some of them.
    Often "swap" matches were made i.e. a brother and sister living together exchanged or two brothers, married two sisters and exchanged places.
    In this case the dowry was not questioned nor any bargaining done.
    Each girl just took her share with her.
