Mumps
A person whose mothers surname has not been changed by marriage is supposed to have a cure for mumps. The person suffering from mumps has a halter put on him and is led to a stream by the curer. The curer then takes three drops of water, one after another in his hand in honour of the Blessed Trinity and gives them to the person to drink. This is done for three days in succession and the mumps are supposed to be cured at the end of that time.
A Stye on the Eye
If you get ten gooseberry thorns, throw one away and point the remaining nine at the stye and then repeat the following words:- Sleamnán, sleamnán chugar dealg a spíonán." This is done for nine successive days and the stye is supposed to be cured at the end of that time.
