    and the boy went home. The boy couldn't keep the secret and he told the woman all about the creature in the cradle. He described him for her. So she got afraid of the thing in the cradle.
    At last she went to the Priest and told him about the baby. He told her to go to a doctor and he would tell her what to do. She did as the Priest told her and went to the doctor. The doctor told her that it was a fairy that was in the cradle. He told her to put him in her shawl and put him on her back, and make believe she was bringing him to the doctor, and when she would be crossing the river she was to let him down into the river. He also said "He will go to the bottom if he is your true son so bring him home then. If he goes with the water he is bad and do not heed him.
    The woman went home and did as the doctor told her. When she was crossing the river she slipped and the child fell and he went with the water
