  1. There is a fort very near my house. It is on land owned by Mr. Rowlette. It is a very pretty fort. There is a ring of white-thorn bushes all round it. It looks very nice in the Summer time when the haw-thorn is in bloom - and all the daisies and primroses growing in it.
The children love playing in it during the day but have a great dread to be near it when it begins to get dark. As it is supposed to be full of fairies and that they be dancing and playing all the night and they disappear at break of day.
