- Local marriage customs
Most marriage occur during Shrove as it is supposed to be the luckiest time of the year; the month of May is supposed to be very unlucky and hardly anyone is married then. In olden times hardly any marriages were not match-made.
There was once a man and he had two daughters; Annie and Maria. A man came looking for one of them to be his wife, and the father said Annie was the best. He came a few times and was keeping company with Annie and the date of the wedding was settled to be in a week. At the same time he thought a good deal of Annie's sister.
