    for the spraying.
The spraying material consists of a mixture of washing soda and bluestone. It is applied by a spraying machine which the worker carries on his back.
About twenty years ago few of the local farmers used washing soda and used instead of it quick lime which was dissolved in water and then mixed with the bluestone solution.
This solution was applied by means of a bunch of heather and it was thus shaken on the stalks.
it was very dirty work and quite a quantity of the liquid was wasted.
