were supposed to be seen on lakes and in some places & these are seen up to the present day. They are supposed to be seen combing their heads & are usually seen before a drowning. There is one at the back of Keash hill in the lake. She is half a woman and half a fish. There is another one in Ballinafad. There is a story told about a man that saw a Mermaid. He snapped a red cap from her & ran home with it & put it up on the loft. She came in after him and married him. In two years after that the girl said she would clean the house and sweep down the loft. She did and she got the little cap so she ran out and never came back again.
