- Not till after St Patrick coming to Ireland in the year 432 did monasteries begin to be built. All the Saints & monks through the country built monasteries churches & convents in order to convert the pagan people whose knowledge of God was dead & cold. After a while men were glad to call themselves the slaves of the great missionary saints & the virgins of Eire fill the cloisters that rise for them on every hillside & in every valley. In this Parish there is a monastery & it is supposed to be built by St Louiy & it was burned by the Danes. Then it was rebuilt by St Patrick. Its walls are abolished & only the wild birds of the air seek refuge there. The altar stands there just as good as in days of yore.(continues on next page)
