   then to measure but at present they only do repairs. A few people in this district wear clogs but some years ago they were more commonly used as footwear. At one time a "clogger" lived in a neighbouring district but now there is nobody who is able to make clogs.

   In former times people seldom wore shoes except on certain occasions, for instance, to Mass and to town. When they were going in a journey they carried their shoes in their hands. When they came near the end of the journey the stopped to put on their shoes. Therefore shoes lasted a long time in those days. Also during this time the same boots were worn by more than one member of the family. The children of those times never wore a shoe either in Winter or in Summer.
