In the year '81
When Brodir, he came up the road
He had with him Watty Armstrong and several other police-men,
Some of Luther's breed,
Some more our own profession but they did not all succeed.

It was when they came to Coolavin
The mob of them enclosed
Then Brodir fired amongst them
And stretched one of his foes,
Old Watty, them he read the act,
He ordered his men to fire
In case he stretched Joe Corcoran,
Whom his wife did not require.

Leaving six small children after him
Of whom we are told
The eldest was a female not passing nine years old
And as for poor Brian Flannery
