- All the forges in this locality are of modern design. John Gabha is the name of the local smith. His family have been smiths for a long time back. The Forge is situated at the crossroads between Rathmore village and this school. It is a modern forge, and it has a flat roof. There was an old forge there before this one, but it was knocked and the new one built on its site. The smith who owned it before the present owners was called " Sean a Chnuic ".This same " Sean a' Chnuic " was a great seancaidhe and crowds used to flock to the forge on wet days a specially to hear him recount his funny yarns etc " As he swung his hammer on the anvil " One day as he was shewing wheels near the forge a woman named Máire t-Sleibe from Nohoval happened to be passing on her way to Confession."Dia dhuitse a Mháire " arsa Sean
"Díá 's Mhuire agus Pádraig dhuit a duine chóir " arsa Máire
" Dar fiadh a Mháire " arsa Seán " acht ná bhfuil áthrú tagaithe ar an sean fhocail úd? :-" Castar na daoine ar a céile acht ní castar na cnuic ná na sléibhte ".
