    purchases of tea, sugar, soap, bread, clothes and such things.
    Money was nearly always given for goods purchased except in a few cases when labour used be given in exchange.
    Words such as the follwoing were used in connection with buying and selling, "boot," "tick," "credit," "sale," "cant."
    It was considered lucky to transact business on all days except on Monday which day was believed to bring about great misfortune. They used to say if you started paying out money on that day, you would soon be poor.
