A humble friend to all around, where e'er our footsteps stray,
Soon every corner of the land in my mind's contemplation,
Would swell with noble words, and deeds and shine with consecration.

And now fair Fane! I leave thy plain: excuse me looking sad,
For more hospitable kindness, no man has ever had,
One lingering look! a fond adieu:
    I'll come again the while,
And sing the name and hidden fame, 'mong fairest in the Isle.
