- Long ago children did not wear boots until they were seven or eight years old. I have not heard any accounts of people who have never worn boots. Some children in this district go barefooted in Summer and the lower classes go barefooted all the year round.
The water used for washing the feet is never left in the kitchen during the night. They say it is an insult to the "good people" who stay in the house during the night.
Boots are repaired locally. There is only one shoemaker in this district. His name is Neddy Delaney. His people have been shoemakers for many years. Shoemakers were more numerous in former times than now. Clogs were worn in time of war. Some people wear them yet in Winter.- Collector
