was walking outside London perhaps looking for work. The first one he met was a ragged Scotchman having a donkey and cart selling delf, now this old cockney of course could not leave poor Paddy pass he said to him "why don't you speak to your brother" as he pointed to the ass, poor Paddy got very angry and he said "I thought I had no brother here so be dad I will" and over to the ass he walked and stooped down near his head and slipped a nail into the donkey's ear of course the donkey ran and jumped, kicked and went mad and broke everything that was in the cart the cockney ran to the police yelling saying "this Irish vagabond should not be at large" so poor Paddy was taken before a magistrate and was asked what did he say into the donkey's ear that drove him mad "well" said Pat "Sir only a few words I told him that the poor Irish farmers were no longer depressed and that Ireland would soon be a nation again". So he said he wanted no fooling here but to tell him every blooming word he said unto the donkey's ear. "O Sir" said Paddy "that was all I said and when the donkey heard the good news he went square mad "well" said the Magistrate "all those Irish Paddy's are too witty I must dismiss him from the bar of justice.
