There is a moat here in Kill a couple of fields from the school.

There is a moat here in Kill a couple of fields from the school. There is a river running past it and a deep trench all around it and in time of attack the water from the river would be diverted into the trench to prevent the enemy from entering the moat.
Some time ago a man started to dig away the mound for top-dressing and no sooner had he taken up the first shovel full when the cattle in the field around went mad thro' the country and he had to give up the work.
