- There is a field near our house of which there is a story told and it is called Gort na Gapall. This field was so called because it was owned by a man named Captain Plunkett who used to keep a lot of horses in it. There is a story going round yet that he had a black war horse one time. This horse was at the battle of the Boyne in the year 1640 carrying his master who was fighting for the side of King James. During the battle one of the horse's feet got badly injured. Even so, he carried his master home safely from the battle on three legs which is(continues on next page)
