- Once upon a time a man named Marin Kearns cut a lone bush in a field belonging to Martin Greene, a short distance north of this school. He sawed off the branches and brought home the trunk for firewood. At that time Martin Greene's sheep were going thieving into another field. He put the branches of the lone bush in the gap where the sheep were going out. After that one of the sheep went into the field, and when it was coming out one of the branches rolled on top of it and killed it. The branch was so light that if it fell on a chicken it wouldn't hurt it. But the old people said that it was some poor creature that got shelter from the bush that had its revenge ont he sheep because the bush was cut.
