It was a bad year for crops, especially oats and turnips, because the ground became very hard.
    Storms.
In 1839 in the parish of The Rower there was a very big storm. It uprooted trees, and knocked down houses, and the people were forced to leave their houses. It was the worst storm the people of The Rower ever experienced, or heard of. On the 14th of January 1938 there was a big storm. It killed a man in Carlow. A tree fell on him.
