- In the year 1800 there was a school in Conway's house in The Rower Village. It was before the first National School was built. The teachers name was John Conway. In the night he used to have a school of adults. After about two or three days in one place the teacher used to move to the next house, that was used as a school. They way he used to be paid was, his pupils used to make a collection for him on his last night in the parish.
There used to be a night-school in Callaghan's house in "Carrenroe Street". The ruins of the house is still to be seen.- Collector
