When Shaun Snabouge caught him the leprauchan was smoking a small dutch pipe. Shaun told him that he would bring him home and tie him up if he didn't hand over at once his crock of gold. The little man astonished Shaun by telling him he was powerless to reveal the secret of the hidden money until the stars were full in the skies. He promised him to return in two hours.
The man was assured of his success when two hours later the leprauchan again appeared. "Go home now and get a pick and shovel," he said, sticking his little pipe in the ground, "and when you'll come back you'll find the gold in this very spot."
So Shaun went home, got the pick and shovel to dig the gold. Great was his surprise when he returned to find the field which comprised of ten acres covered with pipes, all the same shape and size as that of the leprauchan. And though Shaun dug and dug for hours he couldn't strike on the pipe that the leprachaen had stuck first in the ground. He went home, very disappointed.- Collector
