Kirwan was brought to be arrested and the justice condemed him to be hanged. When he was brought to the gallows and the rope around his neck and all the jury asked him had he anything worth wishing for. So Kirwan said "I have a little red cap with ages and ages and if I had it now I could die willingly" So they gave him the cap and he said the magic words. Immediately he was loosened away from the gallows and he was landed back to his own townsland - Kilmogany.
