    passage from the Confessionals to the Altar and they did not get a view of the faces of the occupants of the pews. They remembered afterwards however that each person had his head held downwards. It was only after the Mass was over and the magic disappearance of the congregation that they became convinced that the ceremony and the worshippers were not of this life.
