    (continued from previous page)
I visited Maidenhall four years ago and had a conversation with Mr George Butler. We were discussing wheat culture and he told me that his family cultivated wheat for the past 100 years. He produced an account book and he read from that book that they sold 146 bushels of wheat to Glascow merchants in the year 1846.
