The Penal Days were dark days for Ireland for the English government intended to crush out Religion and education in order to convert the new generation of young Irish people to Prodestant Religion & loyalty to the English crown. But the did not succeed in doing so because it (mean) ment death to a priest to funcion or a teacher to teach or to instruct in religion. Still those men went around among their people disguised in different manners and celebrated Mass in caves & mountain side and teachers taught the children in Hedge scholls and in this manner Catholic(continues on next page)- Collector
