    the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin he slew 6 of his servants who were making hay on his property at Uppercourt. When the local people heard of it they gathered round his house with all sorts of weapons to wreak vengence, but he escaped and fled to Dublin and later to the continent and never returned to Ossary again. Richard Shee died at his in Bouneestown in 1608. His son Lucar married the Hon Ellan Buler 2nd daughter of the 2nd Viscount Montgarret, Robert, his son & heir forfeited his lands & property under Cromwell in 1653. Uppercourt was given to Sir George Askew
    The remains of the ancient parish Church are still to be seen in Freshford, but so altered and renewed that none of the original features remain, except the beautiful porch in the west gable, which bears the name of the who built it.
    In the graveyard attached to the Freshford Church there are many monuments dating from about the 1730 onwards. There are two 17th century monuments.
    Freshford Cross
    This Cross was erected on the wayside to the memory of Lucas Shee of Uppercourt & the Hon. Ellan Butler, his wife, to remind passers by to pray for their souls. The cross was broke & only the base now remain. It stood beside the back entrance to
