  1. (continued from previous page)
    to start
    One spendid summer's morning.
And passing by the ancient rath,
We heard the noise of churning,
And near its lonely bush we saw a
    mighty woodfire burning.
My Mary stepped across the ditch
to view that sight so shocking,
She soon came back with notes and gold,
Tied up in a new stocking.
And pending to the stocking side,
    We saw this handome letter
"Set off at once to Yankee land,
And I will help you better".
So off we set, rejoicing too,
    Though leaving Tipperary,
    And wishing peace to
    friends and foes,
    And blessing on the fairy.
