    flat stone, and were hammered with a heavy piece of iron.
    Then the skins were put in a "hauve", which was a round vessel about the size of a large pot. It had a heavy bottom, but thin sides and cover. This was so that they skins would not burn when "the hauve" containing they skins was put on the fire. It was allowed to remain on a big blazing fire for two hours. At the end of that time the skins were taken out and the stitches were removed. The skins were firmly stuck together now, and they looked like one great piece and now it was firm leather.
