- There are three forges in this parish. The smiths are Michael Fitzsimmone, Ned Barnett and Andy Poole. Fitzsimmon's forge is situated on the Dublin Birr road.Poole's is situated in the Dublin Birr road also.Barnett's is situated on the Rearymore road, Their fathers were smiths before them. Fitzsimmon's forge is a small one.It is always neat and tidy. It is at the back of his dwelling house.It has a thatched roof. The forge door is not of any special shape. There is one fireplace within.The bellows is not made locally. The implements he uses when he is at work are the rasp,punches,knives, anvil,steel,horse shoes,drill, pincers,jack,rivets bolts,sledge,winches, hammers,nails,welds,tweezers, tongs,coal,fire,water. the smith shoes horses and asses,he makes some farm implements. He works in the open air in the summer time. There is no belief as regards the water he uses or as regards the sparks from(continues on next page)
