The tree remained there until, some ten or twelve years ago it was cut down and was purchased by Michael McEvoy Stradbally, Leisc, the Carpenter. Later he made of it an entrance for Daddy and when he had it hung he told Daddy it was made out of the Gallow's tree.
It now remains an entrance gate in Kyle. - An Incident in the Big Snow.
In the year 1838 the year of the "Big Snow" Tim of the Races, a cattle jobber, when returning from Ballinakill fair called into Brennan's, near Spink, Leisc.
It was snowing heavily but he said he had to go home.
The people of the house asked him to remain but he would not stay.
He left - the snow fell heavier - he did not return home.
After seven weeks when the snow was gone he was found near the Blacksticks by John Pigott of Knocklade, sitting on his hunker with £170 in one pocket and 1/2(continues on next page)- Collector
