- About forty years ago there lived one of the strongest men known in the locality. His name was Richard Kelly. He was of low build, rather jolly fellow, and wore a beard. He was well liked in the district. For strength, it was said there was no man able to get the better of him in the locality.
It is said for the bet of a gallon of beer he carried forty stone of corn twenty stone under each arm. He lifted them off a horses cart carried them up a loft and left the two sacks on top of other sacks that were on the loft.
This test of strength is supposed to have never been equalled in the locality.- Informant
