    they called a quern that is a round granite stone with a hollow centre and another stone on top with a handle to turn, when you turn the handle the stone acting as a lid moves round and crushed the Beear or Barley into a sort of meal and with this their bread was made. Then it was baked on a griddle. They had no delf like we have. Their cups or mugs were called noggins made of wood and platter plates also made of wood. That was their plate, some had pewter plates and mugs.
    I heard a story of where some people had a piece of grease hung up over the table and when they came each day to eat their dinner they heated a piece of mettle and just heated this lard or grease and let it drop down on the platters and then dip their potato in it, and when it was all used up they would peel the potato and point to where the greast was, it was called the Dinner of potato and Point.
