- Roscommon town is noted for its cattle and sheep fairs. It has also good pig fairs which are held in the beginning of each month. The ninth and tenth of November are the largest fairs of the year. There are two fairs held in Fuerty which is two miles from Roscommon and they are held on the road as there is no town in Fuerty. Some years ago there were fairs held in Ballinafad which is near Strokestown but the people used to fight and drink so much that the fair had to be abandoned. Ballinafad is not a town. It is a road which runs through a wood. When cattle sheep or horses are in demand buyers come to the houses to buy them. Tolls are paid at the rate of one penny per head in(continues on next page)
