The following is a brief account of the preparation for potato sowing. First good sound potatoes are found, and cut in halves, leaving one eye in each "slit" or half. After a day or two the potatoes are placed in ridges. Next they are closed and moulded, and after a while re-moulded. Neighbours help one another during this period. The growing crop is sprayed with a mixture of Blue-stone, washing-soda, and water during the Summer months. In Autumn the potatoes are dug from the soil by aid of a spade.
The potatoes are picked from the soil usually by the children. The potatoes are stored in pits and lofts for the winter months.
