- (continued from previous page)10 mile foot race or Marathon in round the Monksland Race Course which took place 140 years ago. The prize awarded was a silver watch. A field there still goes by the name of the "Race Park" - another is still called the "Paddock".
The late Michael Geveran of Monksland who died 30 years ago, told me that he attended the race meeting as a boy.
