- (continued from previous page)Working horses were fed in a different way. Furze was the usual food given to the horse. Long ago people had no furze-machine, and it was a "gearrthóir." A hole was dug in the ground called an "umar". The furze was put into the "umar" and bruised with a sharp iron with a knife on the bottom of it.
