    of Coolcolaughta is a structure closely resembling an altar: two stones standing on end with one on top. This may have been a druids altar but it is more probable that it was a "Mass Rock" and used for offering sacrifice during the Penal Days. High up on the mountain is a similar relic known locally as the soldiers table, but I have been unable to glean any information as to the origin of the name. A mound resembling a Cromleagh or Cairn is also visible in the lands of the above named and is probably the last resting place of some former chieftain.
    Two stones on which are curious inscriptions closely resembling - if not actually - Ogham, the ancient system of writing, are visible in Mr. Ward's field and it is believed that they were placed there to guard a great hoard of treasure buried there by some avaricious miser.
    Two gentlemen - one of whom was my uncle - once unearthed some object which they believed to be a crock. They had got it to the edge of the hole when one of them exclaimed "Well we've got it now in spite of the Devil." Immediately the object slipped from their grasp and disappeared, and despite repeated digging it has never since been
