    the kitchen as the chimney was narrow and the top could be reached from the ground. One window containing one pane of glass gave light to the kitchen but it was never opened as it was firmed in the wall. In all the houses there were two doors - a big door which was closed every night and the half hatch which was closed during the day and night. A treshold which was about a half foot high acted as a "weather board The floor was rarely smooth for flags and earth were rough. In some kitchens there were no flags but earth which was hardened and in some kitchens there were flag which were washed clean. The floors were swept with brushes
