Mrs Biddy Lane lived long ago near a kiln north of Taur.

    (continued from previous page)
kiln north of Taur. The kiln was supposed to be frequented by a "spirit" and travellers passing used to call in for her husband to convey them past it. One night a man tapped at the and said there was a man hurt at the kiln so her husband got up in a hurry because(d) he thought it was his son who had gone to Rockchapel forge with a Murphy man.
When they went to the kiln they found the Murphy man dying and he said he had fought with the "spirit" and he died then.
    E. O'Riordan, Newmarket, Co. Cork.
His house was about half a mile from the road through a long rough borheen so they took to his mother's house and laid him on the floor and then they saw that he was very battered and bruised.
