  1. One of the best known old legends of a curse or anathema was the curse of the OKeeffes. This was supposed to be an anathema against the OKeeffes of Cullen for some false accusation they made against the good name of a priest, of the district. Seven brothers and one sister with all their descendants for seven generations we involved the curse was qualified by a statement by the priest that it would not be effective except on those who deserved it. After calling the names of the seven brothers he prophesied that they and their decendants would wither like a green fern. Whether the curse was ever read out from the public altar or not apparently the families dissappeared one by one until when the seventh generation had passed.
