(3) Dan Lehane Lyre, purchased a farm in Dromcummer and after a few years he decided to enlarge the dwelling-house. For that purpose he and his men set to work to dig out a foundation. The very first day, they came on a number of stone slabs about two feet below the surface. One large stone had a iron ring in the centre of it. The men failed with their crowbars to lift the stone and abandoned the work that evening late. After Lehane and his family went to bed that night they heard a great noise and shouting and now and then some grand music was played.
Next day the men continued their work but try as they may they could not get the stone with ring of iron. Next night the noise and the music were more pronounced and then Lehane went and told his trouble to the Parish Priest, Father Dawson.
The Holy Sacrafice was offered up in Lehane's house and the Parish Priest advised him to give up the work and select another site for his house. That coarse was adopted and(continues on next page)- Collector
