There are two shoe-makers in this district and they have been at this trade for many generations back. At the present time shoemakers are not so frequently found, as the bigger amount of our footwear is purchased ready-made. These shoemakeres of long ago did not work in a shop as they do now, they went from house to house, and remained while there was work them.
Clogs were worn in this district about twenty years ago. There was no leather ever tanned in this district.
Boots were made of dog's skin long ago for dancing.- Collector
