A Song (continued)
“I tightened up my boots, my boyo, And I ran against the hill”
(continued from previous page)And never missed their mark,
Till Crowley's finger was shot off,
All by a musket ball. They travelled on together,
They knew their chance was small,
Till Crowley received a battle ball,
That pierced him in the heart,
He ran down to the river bank,
In agony and pain,
Crying out to his comrades,
"Revenge for Ninety-eight."The soldiers quickly followed,
They fired on him again,
His last dying words were "Pray for me,
May God be with you all."
The day of Crowley's funeral,
It was a glorious sight,
The green flag flying before him,
The green was his delight. He was buried in Ballymacoda,
And the shamrock by his side,
The Lord have mercy on his soul,
He proved a Fenian boy."- Informant
