- The potatoes are grown on every farm in this district. Every farmer grows from one and a half to three acres of potatoes each year.
The ploughman prepares the ground for the crop and it is often top dressed with manure before being used.
The potatoes are sown in drills and in ridges but they are mostly sown in drills because it takes less trouble to do so. The plough is used mostly in this district. Wooden ploughs were not used locally long ago but they are not used now. Spades were made locally long ago but now they are bought in a shop.
Before the potatoes are sat they are cut into 'stolons' [?]. The people around help each other at the setting of the potatoes.
